The 2024 International Congress of Mechanical System Dynamics Held in Nanjing, China
The 2024 International Congress of Mechanical System Dynamics was held in Nanjing, China, from December 4 to 5. The event featured the Founding Ceremony of the International Society of Mechanical System Dynamics (ISMSD). Over 200 representatives, including 47 academicians from nearly 30 countries across six continents—such as China, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Romania, Singapore, Australia, Egypt and so on—attended the conference. Attendees also included representatives from international scientific organizations, as well as leaders from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), the Ministry of Civil Affairs (MCA), the China National Space Administration (CNSA), China North Industries Group, China South Industries Group, and the Jiangsu and Nanjing governments. The ISMSD is the first international scientific organization in Jiangsu Province and among the first initiated by MIIT.

On the afternoon of December 4, the ISMSD held its General Assembly and Executive Board Meeting. Prof. Rui Xiaoting, Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, is the president of the society.
The founding ceremony of the ISMSD took place on the morning of December 5, presided over by Prof. Fu Mengyin, Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

Prof. Rui Xiaoting emphasized the central role of mechanical systems such as automobiles, high-speed railways, aircraft, ships, satellites, rockets, and computer numerical control machine tools in advancing scientific and industrial progress. He highlighted mechanical system dynamics as a cornerstone of modern industries such as mechanical engineering, aviation, aerospace, maritime, and transportation. Prof. Rui Xiaoting stated that the ISMSD aims to provide a high-level platform for global scientists and engineers in the field, promoting technological innovation, talent cultivation, and international collaboration.

Congratulatory video messages and letters were sent by 29 members from around the globe, including 10 academicians.

Leaders from the Ministry of Civil Affairs, China South Industries Group, China North Industries Group, the Department of Science and Quality of the China National Space Administration, the International Cooperation Department of the China Association for Science and Technology, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and the Jiangsu government delivered speeches to celebrate the Society’s founding.
Finally, 46 distinguished guests—including the ISMSD president, vice presidents, domestic and international academicians, and government leaders—jointly pressed the button to mark the founding of the ISMSD.

Following the ceremony, three renowned experts—Prof. Marco Amabili from the Canadian Academy of Engineering, Prof. Zhang Weihong from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Prof. Marian Wiercigroch from the Royal Society of Edinburgh—delivered insightful plenary speeches on cutting-edge topics in mechanical system dynamics.

These platforms were launched in collaboration with over 100 prominent scientists, including 46 academicians, 24 editors-in-chief of international journals, and 17 presidents of international societies from 35 countries across six continents. These platforms are widely supported by the global mechanical systems dynamics community.
The International Journal of Mechanical System Dynamics, launched at the end of 2021, has achieved significant milestones within three years. It is now ranked in the Q1 category of the Journal Citation Reports (JCR) for mechanics, engineering, and mechanical disciplines, placing it among the leading journals in its field.
The Standing International Conference on Mechanical System Dynamics has been successfully held twice in Nanjing (2022) and Beijing (2023), attracting approximately 2,000 scientists and engineers from over 20 countries. The third conference is scheduled to be held in September 2025, hosted by Babeș-Bolyai University in Romania.
The International Society of Mechanical System Dynamics is a voluntary, international, academic, and non-profit organization formed by individuals and institutions with significant influence in the field of mechanical system dynamics. Next, the society will continue to build on its integrated platform of "international society, international journal, and international conference." It plans to host academic exchange activities, publish academic journals, books, and research reports, develop series of standards, promote research outcomes, provide technical consulting services, and foster global collaboration. These efforts aim to advance the science and technology of mechanical system dynamics, enhance industrial research and development capabilities, and improve the performance of mechanical systems worldwide.
