The 3rd International Conference on Mechanical System Dynamics was held in Cluj-Napoca, Romania
From September 23 to 27, the 3rd International Conference on Mechanical System Dynamics (ICMSD 2025) was successfully held in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. The conference brought together leading scholars from 44 countries, including 24 academicians, 16 presidents of international societies, and 47 editors-in-chief of international journals, who participated through both online and offline channels. Focusing on the theme "Advancements in Mechanical System Dynamics Research Driving Industrial Development," participants engaged in thorough exchanges of innovative ideas, cutting-edge technologies, and recent methodologies in fundamental research and engineering applications. These discussions effectively promoted international academic collaboration in theoretical exploration, experimental verification, and engineering practices, significantly advancing the comprehensive and rapid development of mechanical system dynamics.

On the morning of September 24, ICMSD 2025 grandly opened at the Grand Hotel Italia in Cluj-Napoca. The opening ceremony was chaired by Local Chairman of ICMSD2025, Member of Technical Sciences Academy of Romania, Prof. Gilbert-Rainer Gillich from Babeș-Bolyai University. Distinguished attendees included Prof. Xiaoting Rui, Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, President of the International Society of Mechanical System Dynamics (ISMSD), Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Mechanical System Dynamics (IJMSD), and Chairman of the standing International Conference on Mechanical System Dynamics (ICMSD); Prof. Gui-Bin Lu, Chairman of the Nanjing University of Science and Technology Council; Prof. Adrian Petrusel, Rector of Babeș-Bolyai University; Prof. Andrei Alexandru, Chairman of the Romanian National Research Authority; Prof. Dorel Banabic, President of the Technical Sciences Science Section of the Romanian Academy; and Prof. Tiberiu Rusu, President of the General Association of Engineers in Romania, Branch Cluj-Napoca.

In his opening address, Prof. Rui warmly welcomed participating scholars from around the world, reviewed the significant contributions of the first two ICMSD conferences to advancing mechanical system dynamics, and expressed his expectations that this third conference would foster prosperous development in the field through in-depth exchanges of the latest research findings. He particularly thanked Local Chair Prof. Gillich, the host institution Babeș-Bolyai University, and all supporting organizations—including universities, research institutions, industrial enterprises, and financial entities—for their crucial support in ensuring the successful organization of the conference.

Subsequently, addresses were delivered by Prof. Adrian Petrusel, Prof. Andrei Alexandru, Prof. Dorel Banabic, and Prof. Tiberiu Rusu, while Prof. Aki Mikkola from Lappeenranta University of Technology in Finland delivered a speech via video. Vice Presidents of the International Society of Mechanical System Dynamics also presented plaques to six working committees and eight technical committees, and presented plaques to their respective chairs.

During the conference, 15 authoritative experts, including academicians from multiple countries, society presidents, and editors-in-chief, delivered excellent plenary reports in the main session. These presentations showcased the latest advancements in the field and outlined development paths for fundamental theory, interdisciplinary research, software development, and engineering applications. The conference also featured 28 parallel sessions covering 21 topics, including the Transfer Matrix Method of Multibody Systems (Rui Method), nonlinear dynamics, fluid-structure interaction, aircraft system dynamics, bionics, and intelligent agents, with 25 invited talks and 190 oral presentations conducted.

The conference also concurrently held meetings of the ISMSD Executive Board, the ICMSD Standing Steering Committee, and the IJMSD Editorial Board. On the morning of September 27, Prof. Gillich presided over the closing ceremony, where the organizing committee presented Best Paper Awards, Best Presentation Awards, Best Poster Awards, and Special Contribution Awards to 42 winning institutions and individuals. Prof. Stefano Lenci from the Polytechnic University of Marche in Italy, the Local Chairman of the next conference, reported on the preparation progress for the 4th ICMSD and screened a promotional video, extending a sincere invitation to scholars worldwide.

In his closing address, Prof. Rui, on behalf of the Standing Steering Committee, announced that the 4th International Conference will be held in September 2028 in Florence, Italy, jointly organized by the Polytechnic University of Marche and the University of Florence, a historic institution with over 700 years of academic heritage. Prof. Stefano Lenci will serve as Local Chairman and Prof. Enzo Marino as Vice Chairman. He emphasized that ICMSD, ISMSD, and IJMSD together form a crucial international platform for discovering, cultivating, recommending, and developing top-tier global talent. He stated that ICMSD 2025 would significantly accelerate the advancement of mechanical system dynamics and also announced several strategic objectives formulated during three international organizational meetings held alongside the conference.
